Learning: from understanding to useful action

Learning design, faculty development, and practical support for applying ideas.

Momentum Performance Partners helps educators and organizations connect learning with what people need to do. Phil Brown’s published professional recommendations describe course design, active learning, assessment, higher education, and collaboration with subject experts.

How do you make learning useful?

Start with the action or decision the learner should be able to make. Choose a realistic practice task, provide feedback, and make room to apply it in context. For example, a supervisor learning expectations should rewrite an actual request and explain how it will be checked, rather than only hear a definition.

Clear the Mechanism

Clear the Mechanism is MPP’s learning and faculty-development program. A sample workshop asks participants to revise a lesson, presentation, or activity around a specific learning outcome.

Does every performance gap need a course?

No. First ask whether people understand the expectation and can perform the task. Missing information, conflicting priorities, or an impractical workflow can require a different response. Training may be part of the solution when knowledge or skill is the gap.

What can an engagement include?

  • Learning needs analysis and course design.
  • Faculty or subject-expert workshops using real learning materials.
  • Assessment, facilitator guides, participant resources, and performance support.
  • Review of existing learning assets and learning operations.
