Clear the Mechanism
Help people understand, retain, and use what they learn.
Clear the Mechanism is Phil Brown’s learning and faculty-development program at Momentum Performance Partners. It focuses on the connection between an intended performance, the learning activity, and the opportunity to apply it.
Who it is for
- Faculty and educators revising a lesson or learning activity.
- Learning and development teams improving workplace training.
- Subject experts who need to make complex material usable.
Ideas participants can put to work
Define the use
Specify what the learner should be able to do with the idea.
Examine the learning task
Look at the explanation, unnecessary complexity, practice, and feedback.
Design for application
Connect the activity to the setting in which learners will use it.
Format and practical output
A sample 90-minute workshop asks participants to bring one lesson, presentation, or learning activity. They clarify its intended use, revise the activity, and identify how to check learning. The final format is tailored to the audience.
How it connects to MPP’s approach
Clarify the outcome, understand the current state, align stakeholders, translate strategy into action, and refine and sustain. These five steps connect MPP’s work across Speaking • Workshops • Consulting.
